The Legend of Snow

A long, long time ago, this story happened in a small, poor town where farmers looked for hardworking jobs to live together in peace and happiness. In this peaceful town, three children were born: two boys and a girl. They were raised and attached to each other over the years. Eddy and Kristin lived in very poor homes, but Vincent was from a rich family. They stayed together all day. They shared each other’s food, even a piece of cake. One day, Kristin’s father died from a serious illness. Eddy and Vincent took care of Kristin more than before. Although Kristin was very sad because of her father’s death, she also felt consoled because of her two best friends.
“Kristin, don’t be sad anymore, we promise that we will stay together forever!” Eddy and Vincent said.
Kristin said: “Promise!”
Time passed. Eddy and Vincent had become healthy and handsome boys, and Kristin also became a good, excellent and beautiful girl… They still remained friends, like a tree with leaves. Both Eddy and Vincent loved Kristin. Kristin didn’t know that her one best friend was in love with her, so she fell in love with Vincent. Eddy knew Vincent loved Kristin, and he also knew that Kristin loved Vincent. He wanted Kristin to be happy. Since Vincent and Kristin loved each other, the three of them became more distant from each other, but Kristin still didn’t know that Eddy was very sad when she went with Vincent.
Until one day, when they were going to watch the sunset and Vincent told Kristin that his parents wanted him to marry another girl. Vincent was so sad… After a few days, Vincent was able to persuade his parents to allow him to start his own business. Then he met up with Eddy and Kristin:
“I persuaded my parents to let me start a business and I will go. I’ll come back after 2 years.”
“Why do you want to leave?” Eddy asked.
“I also don’t want to go, but if I don’t go I’ll have to marry the other girl,” Vincent said.
Kristin didn’t say anything, and she had tears in her eyes because she knew that he had no choice. She couldn’t speak any more words. She was surprised to hear that…
Eddy said, “We lived together since we were young children, we never left each other before, but now…”
“That’s your own choice. Just go for it!” Kristin interrupted with a sad face.
“Can you leave him, Kristin?” Eddy asked with a surprised face.
Kristin said, “That is the only solution. I know it’s hard to accept, but if Vincent stays here, his parents will oblige him to marry another girl. Then we’ll no longer see each other for good.”
Vincent held Kristin’s hands and said, “After 2 years, I’ll come back to marry you, wait for me, please!” And he told Eddy, “Take care of Kristin, please!”
Eddy was thinking for a few minutes because he knew he loved Kristin. He was scared that when Vincent leaves, he might fall in love with her more than before. But when he looked at their sad faces, he agreed.
A few days later, Vincent had moved away. Kristin missed him a lot. Eddy was sad when he saw her sad face… For two years, she didn’t smile, and she waited for the day Vincent would come back. She strongly believed he would come back.
It was a cold winter day. Kristin stood in the place where the three of them usually came, and she watched the sunset to wait for Vincent. In the freezing weather, she was very tired and fell down. Eddy ran to her and hugged her… At that exact moment, Vincent came back and saw Eddy was hugging Kristin. Eddy was crying. Vincent had many thoughts in his head, and he understood that Eddy also loved Kristin. Vincent stood there looking at Kristin for a long time. He turned around because he thought he couldn’t do anything for Kristin anymore, since Eddy had obviously taken his place.
Day after day, Eddy and Kristin waited for Vincent to come back. Then Eddy decided that he would go to look for Vincent. Although he didn’t know where to go, he saw Kristin’s sorrow and his heart told him that he had to find Vincent. He left her to look for Vincent…
Kristin still expected to see her beloved and best friend everyday. She still waited for them but didn’t know that Eddy couldn’t find Vincent. To top it all off, Eddy couldn’t survive the freezing bad weather and passed away on his way. Kristin thought that Vincent forgot her, so she cried so much until she died. She died in the memorial place where she had spent most of her wonderful moments with her beloved future husband and her best friend.
After Kristin died, her body changed into snow falling in the winter. Whenever the winds were icy in winter, the people of the town remembered Eddy’s sadness, Kristin’s suffering, and Vincent’s sorrow. Someone said that the snow was Kristin’s spirit always looking for Vincent and Eddy everywhere. When the winter comes, and the snow falls, it brings beauty, romance and sadness, but also reminds everyone of the sad love story of Kristin, Vincent and Eddy.
