Two Poems and an Essay

Duong Nguyen (Vietnam)

(Translated from Vietnamese)

Begin a page with blue ink

Leaving a few lines for the future

Hope the color will never fade

For the memories are fresh forever

Summer comes, goodbye tomorrow, my friends

Looking at flowers falling makes me regret

Days I miss hanging out with friends

Together we went to our school

Listen to teachers say interesting things

And grinning when they sulked and scolded

These days have already passed

I don’t yet know the future ahead

Will we gather, or say farewell forever?

Hey my friend, are you feeling grief?

For me, I’ll always remember

Those beautiful memories months and years ago

I wish time would turn back

For us to be together forever

The first time I stepped in the land of the U.S., I thought that I would never know any friends.  Maybe I would only learn English and go to work to earn money.

But that was a lack of imagination.  I had lots of friends in a short time.  More than that, they’re all good friends.

I feel very happy and lucky.  I feel happy thinking about them.  They treat me well.  I hope I can spend the rest of my student life with them, studying, giggling as in the past.
