Welcoming Center West
The Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians began work in West Philadelphia in 2006 with community town hall meetings and roundtable discussions with over 100 native-born and immigrant community leaders, politicians, and nonprofit agencies in West Philadelphia. Participants discussed ways the immigrant community and the receiving community can work collectively to break down barriers and create a more economically prosperous region.
In response to these community-driven meetings, we created Welcoming Center West to provide members of the community – both immigrants and native-born Americans – access to opportunities for economic development and civic participation.
Our Services:
This work requires collaboration from the entire community. At the invitation of the 52nd Street Business Association and with the support of many other community partners, we opened a space on 52nd Street to provide the following services:
By facilitating cooperative efforts and understanding among immigrants and native-born residents, Welcoming Center West promotes a stronger, safer, and more economically dynamic community.
