From Mozart to Rafael Hernández

Description: On May 3, as part of their Crossing Cultures and Bridges Across Broad Street programs, Intercultural Journeys will be joining its partners from Dancing Classrooms Philadelphia, Taller Puertorriqueño, AMLA-Artistas y Músicos, Latino Americanos, Esperanza Academy Charter School, and the Dalí String Quartet in putting on what is guaranteed to be an entertaining musical concert. The performance will bring together students from various communities in Northeast Philadelphia and include local favorites Carmen Alvarado, Daniel de Jesus, and Philadelphia Orchestra cellist, Udi Bar-David. Doors open at 7:15 and the concert is free.

"We Cannot Keep Silent" Exhibition Open House

In December 2009, dozens of concerned Asian student immigrants boycotted their high school and launched a civil rights campaign to fight for a safer educational environment. Now, Asian Americans United and partners, including organizations like the Philadelphia Folklore Project, are showcasing their remarkable exhibit entitled "We Cannot Be Silent." The exhibit features voices from a campaign that sought to terminate both school violence and racial discord and includes the photographs of both Harvey Finkle and Kathy Shimizu.

"Out of the Shadows" Documentary

Description: This Saturday Villanova University students from the Social Justice Documentary Program will get to showcase their new documentary. On this day at Bryn Mawr Film Institute the students will premiere "Out of the Shadows," a documentary exemplifying the struggles and risks undocumented immigrants face on a daily basis. The film will delve into many of the issues surrounding undocumented immigrants, particularly Dream Act legislation.
