Welcoming Center West - History

The Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians began work in West Philadelphia in 2006, holding community town hall meetings and roundtable discussions with over 100 native-born and immigrant community leaders, politicians, and nonprofit agencies in West Philadelphia. Participants discussed ways the immigrant community and the receiving community can work collectively to break down barriers and create a more economically prosperous region.

In response to these community-driven meetings, Welcoming Center West was created to provide members of the community -both immigrants and native-born Americans — access to opportunities for economic development and civic participation.
